In Memoriam – Kevin Doran

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the death of Kevin Doran, who was a well-known volunteer with the Victoria soccer community. Kevin passed away peacefully in his sleep less than a week before scheduled open heart surgery on July 5th. Kevin was on the Board of Directors for LIWSA (treasurer), field scheduler for Vic West, and he co-coached the Division 3 Vic West women's soccer team. He was also a life-long West Ham United fan. Kevin remained close to his 2 daughters, and was looking forward to meeting his new grandson who lived in Ontario. He worked for the BC Public Service, in the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. Kevin would have been 60 years' old in December. Kevin was described by the players on his team as "dedicated, funny, thoughtful, and passionate about soccer". While Kevin struggled with health issues over the past several years, he rarely missed a practice or game. Kevin's positive, optimistic outlook showed that he didn't want to worry anyone, as he was known to downplay any concern. When we last saw Kevin at the LIWSA AGM in May, he noted that his anticipated heart surgery was "nothing special, practically routine these days". Kevin will be dearly missed by his many soccer friends, who are struggling to accept the sudden loss of someone we cared about, depended on, laughed with, and respected.
